Google Search Profiles for Creators: The Real Requirements
The short version: a Search profile is your official page inside Google Search, pulling together your content from YouTube, Instagram, TikTok and X. Coverage of the launch overwhelmingly quotes 100,000 followers as the bar. Google's own help page lists 35,000 for YouTube — and you only need to clear the threshold on one platform. The catch that matters more: it's United States only for now.
This feature has been reported on since June, and almost every write-up repeats the same number. It's worth checking against the documentation, because the difference decides whether you're eligible.
1The documented thresholds
| Platform | Followers required |
|---|---|
| YouTube | 35,000 |
| 35,000 | |
| X | 35,000 |
| TikTok | 100,000 |
The widely-quoted 100,000 matches TikTok's bar, not YouTube's. On the documented numbers, roughly three times more YouTube channels qualify than the reporting implies.
We're reporting what Google's help page says today. Thresholds can be adjusted after launch, so if you read 100,000 somewhere published in June, that may have been accurate at the time rather than simply wrong. Check the current page before concluding you don't qualify.
Two other requirements sit alongside the follower count: you must be at least 18, and your content has to meet Google's policy guidelines.
2The catch: United States only
Google's help page states plainly that Search profiles are currently available only in the United States. No follower count changes that.
For most people reading this, that's the end of the practical story for now — which is exactly why it's worth knowing before spending an evening on it. The rest of this article is useful either because you're in the US, or because you want to be ready when it expands.
3Claiming versus creating
There are two routes, and which one applies depends on something you may not have checked: whether Google already has a knowledge panel for you.
- You have a knowledge panel. Creators, publishers and brands in this position may already have a Search profile generated automatically. Your job is to claim it — prove it's yours and take control.
- You don't. Then nothing was auto-generated, and you create one from scratch, provided you clear the follower threshold on a linked account.
Both routes start in the same place: profile.google.com/claim. You sign in with your Google Account, connect the platform accounts you want linked, and either confirm the existing profile is yours or create a new one.
Google may ask for identity verification during this — the documentation mentions a selfie-with-ID check. Worth knowing before you start, so it doesn't come as a surprise.
4What you actually control
Less than a personal website, more than a knowledge panel. The documented controls:
- Pin up to 8 featured posts — your choice of what leads
- Add up to 8 links — site, merch, whatever matters
- Suggest edits to your name and bio — note suggest, not set
One detail that catches people out: the handle is assigned automatically, based on your most-followed linked account. You don't pick it.
5Why this matters more than it looks
A Search profile shows in Google Search and in Discover. More importantly, edits you make can be reflected in the knowledge panel — the box that appears when someone searches your name.
That box has historically been assembled by Google from whatever it could find, with creators having little say. A Search profile is the first straightforward way for a creator to influence it.
Practically: when a brand, a journalist or a potential collaborator searches your name, this is what frames you. That's a different job from ranking a video, and it's one most creators have never been able to touch.
6If you don't qualify — what's actually worth doing
Below the threshold, or outside the US, the honest answer is that you can't have this yet. But the underlying goal — Google understanding who you are and showing you coherently — isn't gated:
- Use one name consistently across YouTube, other platforms and any site you own. Google connects entities by consistent signals, and inconsistent naming is the most common thing working against you.
- Own a page you control that lists your channels and what you do. When there's no profile, this is what Google has to work with.
- Link your accounts to each other. Mutual links between your own properties help Google see them as one entity.
None of this produces a Search profile. It does mean that when you cross the threshold — or the threshold moves — there's a coherent picture waiting rather than a scatter of unconnected accounts.
While the profile is out of reach, the thing you can move today is how your videos perform in search. BYSO writes titles, descriptions and tags from your video, and generates click-ready thumbnails.

FAQ
How many subscribers do I need?
35,000 on YouTube per Google's help page — or 35,000 on Instagram or X, or 100,000 on TikTok. One platform is enough. The 100,000 figure quoted in most coverage matches TikTok, not YouTube.
What is a Search profile?
An official creator page inside Google Search that aggregates your content from YouTube, Instagram, TikTok and X, and appears in Search and Discover.
Can I get one outside the US?
Not currently. Google's help page says Search profiles are only available in the United States for now.
Do I claim or create?
If you already have a knowledge panel, a profile may exist for you to claim. If not, you create one. Both start at profile.google.com/claim.
Can I choose my handle?
No — it's assigned from your most-followed linked account.
