AI Tools That Make YouTube Titles, Tags and Thumbnails From Your Video
Checked 13 Oct 2026What each tool reads comes from its own website, linked at the end. We make BYSO, and it is in this comparison — including where it stops and you still have to do the work.
The request sounds simple: "I give it my video, it understands what the video is about, and it hands me titles, tags and a thumbnail." Search for it and you get dozens of "AI thumbnail generators". Look closer and most of them never see your video at all — they start from a title or a prompt you write. Here is what each tool actually reads.
01What each tool starts from
| Tool | What it reads | What you get | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| BYSO | The video: its transcript, or the picture and sound when there's no speech. YouTube, Shorts or Reels link, or a file | 7 titles, description, tags, chapters, 3 thumbnails | ≈ $0.50 a video; SEO only ≈ $0.10; no subscription |
| Thumbnailr | Your prompt; a YouTube link only as a style reference | Thumbnails | $10 for 25; 5 free credits |
| Thumbn | Your video title | Thumbnails | Free 2/mo; $20/mo for 50 |
| Thumbfa.st | Your prompt and reference images | Thumbnails | Free 5/mo; $19/mo for 150 |
| Pikzels | Your prompt, trained face and style | Thumbnails, titles | $40/mo, or $28/mo yearly |
| 1of10 | Your title, plus outlier videos you research | Titles, ideas, thumbnails | Free 60 credits/mo; $19/mo |
| YouTube Studio | Your channel and its existing videos | Ask Studio thumbnails in your style; refreshes for old videos | Free; availability varies |
Only one row reads the video itself. Everything else is a good image generator that needs you to explain the video first — which is fine if you already know the angle, and extra work if you don't.
02Why reading the video changes the result
- Titles. A tool that only sees your working title can only rephrase it. One that reads the transcript can pull the strongest moment from minute 7 into the title.
- Tags and description. Viewers search for the words people actually say in videos like yours. Built from the transcript and real YouTube search suggestions, tags match the content instead of the title's guess.
- Thumbnails. The thumbnail should promise what the video delivers. Starting from the content keeps the promise honest — which matters, because YouTube looks at what viewers do after the click.
- Videos with no speech. Music, gameplay, cooking without narration: a title-based tool has nothing to work with, a tool that looks at the frames does.
A quick test for any tool: give it a video with a vague working title like "Vlog 12" or "Update". If the titles and thumbnail mention specific things that happen inside the video — especially in the second half — it read the video. If they just reword "Vlog 12", it didn't.
03What BYSO does with your link, step by step
- Gets the content. From a link it takes the captions. If there are none, or almost no speech, it has AI watch the video — picture and sound: the whole thing up to 30 minutes, or 8 short clips spread across a longer one. For private or restricted videos, upload the file (up to 500 MB) and it transcribes the audio itself.
- Writes the SEO. 7 title options, a ready description, chapter timestamps for longer videos, and tags built from the video, real YouTube search suggestions and competitors' tags — trimmed to YouTube's 500-character limit. In 8 languages.
- Draws 3 thumbnails in different styles with the top image models — Google Gemini (Nano Banana) and OpenAI GPT Image — from the story it found in the video, so you never write a prompt. Add a few photos and they use your face; add your own text and it goes on the image; Shorts get 9:16.
- You paste it into YouTube Studio. About a minute end to end.
Where it stops. BYSO does not publish to YouTube or set the thumbnail for you — you copy the results into Studio. It has no A/B testing and no face training (add photos each time). And it is in alpha: we ship changes almost daily, so expect the occasional rough edge.
04The do-it-yourself route: ChatGPT or Gemini
You can get most of the text with a general chatbot: paste the transcript, ask for titles, a description and tags. It works, with three catches:
- You fetch the content yourself. Copy the transcript from YouTube or a transcript tool. Gemini can also open a public YouTube link; ChatGPT works from what you paste.
- Tags come from the model's guess, not from what people type into YouTube search, and nothing keeps them under the 500-character limit.
- The thumbnail is a separate job: a new prompt, an image model, and checking that the text on the image is spelled right.
If you publish once a month, that's fine. If you publish every week, the copy-paste adds up.

Is there a tool that makes YouTube SEO and a thumbnail from a video link?
Yes. BYSO takes a YouTube, Shorts or Instagram Reels link, or an uploaded video file, reads the transcript — or watches the picture and sound when there is no speech — and returns 7 titles, a description, tags, chapters and 3 thumbnails in about a minute. It costs about $0.50 per video with no subscription.
Do AI thumbnail generators watch my video?
Most don't. Thumbn starts from your video title, Thumbfa.st and Pikzels from a prompt, and Thumbnailr uses a YouTube link only as a style reference. A tool has to read the transcript or the frames to know what happens inside the video.
Can it work with a video that has no subtitles?
In BYSO, yes: if a linked video has no captions or almost no speech, the AI watches the picture and sound — the whole video up to 30 minutes, or 8 short clips spread across longer ones. If the video is private or restricted, upload the file and BYSO transcribes the audio itself.
Can it work before the video is published?
Yes — upload the video file (up to 500 MB) instead of a link. Private videos can't be read by link, so the file is the way to go for unpublished uploads.
Can ChatGPT do YouTube SEO from a video?
It can write titles, a description and tags from a transcript you paste in. It doesn't fetch the video itself, doesn't use YouTube search suggestions for tags, and the thumbnail is a separate prompt to an image model.
