Made on YouTube 2026: Every Announcement, Sorted for Creators

1 October 2026 · 8 min read · BYSO Team

23 Sep 2026YouTube's annual creator event brought around twenty announcements across Shorts, Studio, Live, Shopping and the viewer app. Below they are sorted the way a creator needs them: what you can use now, what is coming, and what is not about you yet.

One number from YouTube for scale: more than 20 million videos are uploaded every day. Most of this year's tools are about standing out in that — better packaging, faster editing, reaching viewers in other languages.

How to read the dates. YouTube's own posts give almost no dates. Where a date below comes from trade press rather than YouTube, it is marked (press). Treat those as likely, not promised.

02Use now: the three that change your packaging

Shorts series

Shorts can now be grouped into seasons and episodes, played in order, with a custom thumbnail for every episode — on phones, web and TV. The playlist must contain only Shorts, each up to 180 seconds, and YouTube expects a consistent thumbnail style across the series. The series itself needs two 16:9 images on top of the 9:16 episode covers. Full rules and setup: our Shorts series guide.

Dynamic thumbnails

Instead of picking one winner for everyone like Test & Compare, YouTube keeps all three thumbnails and shows each to the audience segment it works for. That changes how to design them: three different promises (a face, the result, a bold claim), not three colour variants. YouTube has not said whether it covers Shorts or how segments are defined. Details: our dynamic thumbnails breakdown.

Ask Studio, now with opinions

Ask Studio — the AI assistant inside Studio — comes to iOS and Android, reviews unpublished drafts for pacing, structure and storytelling, generates thumbnails in your channel's style, and can run in the background on older videos, suggesting and testing refreshed thumbnails. Alongside it, the Studio app gets a research feed showing what kind of content is working. The background refresh is the one to watch: decide which old videos deserve a hand-made thumbnail before an automatic one arrives.

Dynamic thumbnails need three genuinely different covers, Shorts series need one per episode. BYSO makes three per run — from your video link or file, with your own photo and text if you add them.

03Coming: editing, testing and live

04Not about most small channels — yet

05What viewers get — and why it matters to you

Custom feeds let viewers type what they want — YouTube's example is "witty podcasts for my daily 30-minute commute" — and get a homepage tab that keeps refreshing. Reports say all US users on web, mobile and TV get it this fall; other countries have no date. Ask YouTube recommends products, Ask Music helps find tracks, Podcast Lineup sends weekly podcast summaries.

The creator takeaway: more discovery is moving from "what you watched" to "what you asked for". A feed built from a sentence matches on what a video is about — which puts weight back on a clear title, an accurate description and a thumbnail that says the topic at a glance.

06Questions

When was Made on YouTube 2026?

Made on YouTube 2026 took place on 23 September 2026. YouTube published the announcements on its official blog the same day.

Which Made on YouTube 2026 features can I use right now?

Shorts series (rolling out to creators), dynamic thumbnails and the expanded Ask Studio with draft feedback and channel-matched thumbnails are presented as available now. Conversational editing, live auto-dubbing and Live Showdowns are coming later — press reports put them in 2027.

What is the conversational editing tool on YouTube?

An AI editor in the Shorts editor and the YouTube Create app: you describe what you want, and it trims pauses, reorders clips for pacing and suggests further edits. Coverage of the event places the launch in early 2027 on Android and iPhone.

Is real-time auto-dubbing available for live streams?

Not yet. YouTube announced it; trade press reports a pilot in English and Spanish in early 2027. No list of eligible channels has been published.

What are custom feeds on YouTube?

Homepage tabs you create by describing what you want to watch, such as "witty podcasts for my 30-minute commute". They update automatically. Reports say they are coming to all US users on web, mobile and TV this fall; other countries have no date.

Did YouTube expand its Shopping affiliate program?

Yes. YouTube says the affiliate program will reach 35 countries by the end of 2026, with Amazon support outside the US. Press reports name India and Brazil as the first Amazon markets, and product tags now adapt to the viewer's location.
