YouTube Get Feedback for Shorts: Who Has It and Where

Until now, the only honest feedback on a Short arrived after publishing, in the form of a retention graph and a view count. This moves part of that conversation earlier — to the moment the video is recorded but not yet live.
The announcement came from YouTube CEO Neal Mohan, with the operational detail filled in by YouTube's own Creator Insider channel on 8 September. Everything below comes from that video.
01Where the button actually is
This trips people up, because it is not where most creators look for new features:
- Open the main YouTube app on your phone — not YouTube Studio.
- Start a normal Shorts upload as you always would.
- On the screen where you add details before publishing, look for the new Get feedback button.
Not on desktop, not in Studio. If you upload Shorts from a computer or manage them in YouTube Studio, you will not find this button there. It lives in the mobile upload flow.

YouTube described this as reaching all creators who meet those conditions, not a limited test. No date has been announced for other countries.
03What the feedback looks like
YouTube showed a real example in the announcement. For a Short about a product update, the tool responded roughly like this: the delivery and audio quality were strong, which made the opening engaging — and to make the Short land better, the creator could add quick visual inserts or a screen recording showing the feature in action while narrating, keeping the viewer's eyes on screen and making the update more concrete.
That is the shape of it: one thing that already works, one specific change to try. Not a score, not a pass or fail.
The useful part is the specificity. "Add a screen recording during the narration" is something you can act on in ten minutes. "Improve your hook" is not. Whether the tool keeps that level of concreteness across different kinds of Shorts is the thing worth watching.
04What it does not do
YouTube was unusually explicit here, and the limits matter as much as the feature:
- It changes nothing by itself. The tool only offers suggestions. Your Short is untouched unless you edit it.
- It is entirely optional. You choose whether to ask for feedback at all, and which suggestions — all, some or none — to apply.
- The creator stays in charge. YouTube's stated reason is that every creator, channel and audience is different, so the advice is based on general best practices rather than on rules it will enforce.
One thing YouTube has not said: that requesting feedback affects how your Short is distributed. It has not been described as a ranking input. If you see a claim that using the button boosts reach, treat it as unverified — nothing in the announcement supports it.
05If the button is not there
Before assuming something is broken, check the four conditions above in order. In practice the reason is almost always one of these:
- You are outside the United States.
- Your account is registered as under 18.
- You are uploading from desktop, or working in YouTube Studio.
- The rollout simply has not reached your account yet — these arrive gradually even among eligible creators.
Feedback on the video is one half. The thumbnail decides whether anyone opens it at all — and for Shorts, the cover frame is what people see in search and on your channel page.
